Climate Resilience
Understand the risks to your assets before the climate does it for you
Climate risk is no longer a future problem. While efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions continue, many impacts are already unavoidable. Resilience ensures that projects can anticipate, prepare for and respond to hazardous events and trends.
Today ensuring building assets are resilient is mostly a balance sheet issue. Flooding, heat stress, and storm damage are already affecting asset values, insurance costs, and operating continuity across Southeast Asia. Lenders, insurers, and investors are starting to ask for proof that a building can withstand what is coming, not just a statement of intent. A climate resilience assessment gives you that proof, and a clear plan to close the gap.

Why should you assess your climate resilience?

RISK MANAGEMENT
Integrate climate‑related risks into existing frameworks and stay ahead of regulatory requirements.

OCCUPANT SAFETY AND COMFORT
Incorporate robust building systems, passive design features and nature‑based solutions that keep people safe during extreme events.

ECONOMIC VALUE
Research shows that every dollar spent on risk mitigation can return four in avoided damages and costs.

BUSINESS CONTINUITY Implement disaster recovery planning, backup energy systems and resilient supply chains to reduce disruptions.

SUSTAINABILITY LEADERSHIP
Align with global standards like LEED, WELL and the Task Force on Climate‑related Financial Disclosures.
What is a Climate Resilience Assessment?

A resilience assessment helps organisations to adapt their buildings, infrastructure and operations to withstand acute events. It identifies the climate hazards a site actually faces, quantifies what that risk means for the asset, and sets out the measures needed to protect it. It relies on historical climate event data for the location, hazard and exposure modeling, and site-specific information on construction, occupancy, and asset value.
01 Hazards. Identify local and regional climate hazards, including acute events (flooding, storms, extreme heat) and chronic trends (rising sea levels, air quality degradation) based on historical events and their frequency

02 Exposure. Identify which assets on the site are most exposed to those hazards.

03 Vulnerability. Define and quantify, at a high level, the potential damage or loss those assets face.

04 Resilience Measures. Identify site and building design strategies that protect assets and people from the threats identified.

How we help you assess and build resilience
01
DATA COLLECTION
We gather site-specific data: historical climate events, hazard frequency, asset locations, and construction details.
02
EVALUATION OF DATA
Our team maps exposure and quantifies vulnerability, identifying which assets and which asset systems and areas carry the greatest potential for damage or loss under current and projected climate conditions.
03
RECOMMENDATIONS & RESILIENCE STRATEGIES
We develop site and building design strategies tailored to the hazards identified, from drainage and elevation to material and system choices.
04
COST ESTIMATION & AVOIDED-COST ANALYSIS
We estimate the cost of implementing each resilience measure against the projected cost of inaction: repair, downtime, and rising insurance premiums. This gives you a clear return-on-resilience case.
05
IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT
We support the integration of resilience measures into design, construction or retrofit, coordinating with your project team and verifying that measures are built as specified.
06
FINAL ASSESSMENT REPORT
You receive a clear, actionable report setting out the hazards, exposure, vulnerability, resilience measures, and the cost-benefit case behind each one, giving you what you need to brief lenders, insurers and your board.
07
MONITORING & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
We establish metrics and key performance indicators to monitor resilience over the building’s lifecycle.
Why choose GBCE ?
We've carried out resilience assessments on projects across Europe and Asia, including a winery in a fire-prone region of France and hospitality and industrial projects across Thailand addressing flood, water, and energy security. That experience is backed by climate risk data specific to each country and province where we work, not a single regional dataset applied across borders.

REFERENCE PROJECT
Nhà Estate, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Vietnam
GBCE carried out a climate resilience assessment for Nhà Estate, evaluating the site's exposure to flooding, sea level rise, and storm risk given its coastal location.
The project is now integrating the resulting resilience measures into the villa development's design.
